...COASTAL FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 9 PM THIS EVENING TO 3 AM

EST THURSDAY...

* WHAT...1 1/2 to 2 1/2 feet of inundation above ground level

expected in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline.

* WHERE...Southern Queens County.

* WHEN...From 9 PM this evening to 3 AM EST Thursday.

* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Widespread flooding of vulnerable areas

near the waterfront and shoreline. Expect 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 feet of

inundation above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas.

This will result in numerous road closures and cause widespread

flooding of low lying property including parking lots, parks,

lawns and homes/businesses with basements near the waterfront.

Vehicles parked in vulnerable areas near the waterfront will

likely become flooded.

* SHORELINE IMPACTS...Breaking waves of 5 to 9 ft will result in

beach erosion with minor damage possible to dune structures.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Heavy rain during or just before time of

high tide will likely exacerbate street flooding in low lying

and coastal communities around the time of high tide.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. If

travel is required, do not drive around barricades or through

water of unknown depth.

* WHERE...In New Jersey, Hudson, Eastern Essex and Eastern Union

Counties. In New York, Richmond (Staten Island) and Kings

(Brooklyn) Counties.

* WHEN...From 9 PM this evening to 1 AM EST Thursday.

* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Widespread minor flooding is expected in

the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline.

Expect around 1 to 2 feet of inundation above ground level in

low lying, vulnerable areas. Some roads and low lying property

including parking lots, parks, lawns and homes/businesses with

basements near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.

Flooding will also extend inland from the waterfront along the

tidal Hackensack and Passaic Rivers.

If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be

closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of

unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone

property.
