One remained unbeaten; the other suffered its first defeats in unorthodox fashion. With all six scoring racers finishing in the top-22 overall, the Ridgefield High boys ski team improved its record to 21-0 by sweeping six opponents on Feb. 13 at Mount Southington. The Tigers had a team time of 291.50 seconds to beat Staples (295.48), Darien (297.oo), Fairfield (308.84), Barlow (329.23), Guilford (362.22), and Gilbert\/Northwest Regional (disqualified) in head-to-head meets. Ridgefield's time was also the fastest among all 12 teams competing. Four Tigers finished in the top-10 overall. Jakob Robinson was third with a two-run combined time of 46.53 seconds, followed by teammates Declan McNamara (fourth, 47.46), Alex Bornstein (eighth, 48.55), and Luke Faillaci (10th, 49.28). Eliot Hynes was right behind Faillaci, finishing 11th overall in 49.38, and Joseph Pastore rounded out Ridgefield's team time by placing 22nd in 50.30. Meanwhile, the Ridgefield girls team had its undefeated regular season end due to disqualification. Only five varsity skiers completed both runs for the Tigers, one fewer than required for a team score. Four Ridgefield skiers fell during one of their runs, and another was disqualified for missing a gate. As a result, the Tigers lost to Darien, Fairfield, Staples, and Barlow in head-to-head matches. Gilbert and Guilford were also disqualified. Ridgefield (13-4) did have two of the day's top-five overall finishers. Riley Peters was third in a combined time of 53.17 seconds, and teammate Julia Bragg placed fifth in 53.60. Echo Nielsen was 24th (58.29), followed by Lily Faillaci (28th, 59.08) and Shea Coughlin (33rd, 30.04). Notes: Both Ridgefield teams are scheduled to end the regular season this Thursday (Feb. 28). The state championship meet is set for next Thursday (March 5) at Mt. Southington.
