Nearly three months after winning the first state title in program history, the Ridgefield High School girls varsity soccer team is receiving another award. This Monday (Nov. 12), the Tigers will be presented\u00a0with the Army National Guard national ranking trophy as part of the 13th annual MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army\u00a0National Guard. Ridgefield is\u00a0one of 10 girls varsity soccer teams being honored on this\u00a0season\u2019s tour. The presentation is scheduled to take place during halftime of the Ridgefield High girls basketball team's game against New Canaan, which starts at 7 p.m. After losing in the Class LL finals the previous two seasons, Ridgefield broke through with a 2-1 triumph over Staples in the championship game on Nov. 18 in West Haven. The Tigers, who ended the season with a 16-3-3 record, were ranked 47th (out of more than 16,000 girls varsity programs) in MaxPreps final national rankings. Two other Connecticut teams, Class L champ St. Joseph (32nd) and Class S winner Old Lyme (42nd), were ranked ahead of Ridgefield. Penn High School (Mishawaka, IN) finished first overall, followed by Wall Township (Wall, NJ). On Monday, MaxPreps regional representative Kayla Ellenwood and\u00a0Ohio Army National Guard representative Sergeant Jaime Vega will present the award to Ridgefield High girls soccer head coach Iain Golding and athletic director Dane Street at the halftime ceremony. The MaxPreps Tour of Champions presented by the Army National\u00a0Guard recognizes the finest high school teams in the\u00a0country through various celebrations and formal ceremonies.\u00a0The Tour was inaugurated in 2005 and honored 10 premier\u00a0football programs. Currently, the Football Tour honors 50 of the\u00a0top scholastic teams in America. In 2007, boys basketball was\u00a0added, and girls basketball became a part of the award program the\u00a0following year. Girls volleyball joined the mix in 2010,\u00a0and girls soccer joined the program in 2011. Boys soccer became\u00a0the newest addition the following season.
