Wrestling: Seniors shine in Ridgefield's win over Ludlowe
On Senior Night, two seniors clinched a win for the Ridgefield High wrestling team.
Victories from Jesse Walker and Peter Murray led the Tigers to a 35-28 triumph over Fairfield Ludlowe on Tuesday at Ridgefield High School.
With the Tigers trailing 28-26, Walker (132 pounds) pinned his Ludlowe opponent in one minute and 35 seconds to give Ridgefield a 32-28 lead going into the final weight class.
Murray then sealed the victory for the Tigers by winning a 6-3 decision at 138 pounds.
Ludlowe was ahead 25-17 with five matches remaining. But Ridgefield got wins from Riley Courtney (4-0 decision) at 113 pounds and Ben Smart (pin in 2:46) at 120 pounds to take a 26-25 lead.
The Falcons went back in front, 28-26, before Walker and Murray prevailed in the final two weight classes.
Ridgefield's third senior starter, Simon Preston, won a technical fall by a score of 17-1 at 160 pounds. Sam Klotz added a pin (in 1:08) at 220 pounds, and Mike Marrone had a forfeit victory at 160 pounds.
Notes: The Tigers' four seniors — Preston, Walker, Murray, and Chris D'Entrone (injured) — were honored at the meet.
Ridgefield will now begin the post-season at the FCIAC championship (Friday and Saturday) at New Canaan High School.
