Ridgefield track teams finish eighth at Class LL meets

Just two points separated the Ridgefield High boys and girls outdoor track and field teams from identical finishes at Wednesday's Class LL state championship meets in New Britain.

Each placed eighth in the team standings — the RHS girls with 41 points and the RHS boys with 39 points.

The girls did provide the only first-place finish though, as sophomore Emma Langis won the 300-meter hurdles in a time of 44.99 seconds. Langis's time was slightly off the school record of 44.75 that she set earlier this season.

That event was Ridgefield's most productive of the day. In addition to Langis's victory, teammates Anna Landler and Carolyn Donovan finished third and fourth, respectively, in the 300 hurdles with times of 47.55 and 48.15. The three top-four finishes contributed 21 of the Tigers' 41 points.

Eight more points came from Gabriella Viggiano, who was second in the 1,600 with a time of 5:06.63.

Also scoring points in individual events were Grace Michalowski in the 800 (sixth, 2:20.82); Eyga Williamson in the 100-meter dash (seventh, 13.01); and Amanda Condron in the high jump (seventh, 4'10").

Kasey McGerald, Michalowski, Landler, and Donovan combined to finish fifth in the 4x400 relay (4:06.44), and Catherine Conroy, Williamson, Carrina Dabroi, and Sam Petruzzelli were eighth in 4x100 relay (50.72).

Oliver Hayes had the top finish for the Ridgefield boys team, clearing 14 feet to place second in the pole vault.

Simon Jupp was third in the 400-meter dash (49.97); Justin Showstead added fourth-place finishes in the shot put (45'4") and the javelin (162'3"); and Kevin Arnold placed sixth in the 800 (1:59.19).

Aidan Williams, Jupp, Arnold, and Mitchell van der Noll teamed to finish third in the 4x400 relay (3:24.31), and Ethan MacKenzie, Charles Coffin, Arnold, and Jupp were third in the 4x800 relay (8:06.34).

Notes: The top-eight finishers in each event scored points.

Danbury won the girls team championship with 94 points and the boys team championship with 83.50 points.

Both Class LL meets took place at Willow Brook Park in New Britain.
