Ridgefield track teams fifth at FCIAC meets
The Ridgefield High boys and girls outdoor track and field teams both finished fifth at the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference championships on Monday in New Haven.
Scoring 60.20 points, the Ridgefield girls were fifth behind Danbury (144 points), Fairfield Ludlowe (108.70), Greenwich (81), and Trumbull (64).
The Ridgefield boys team had 53 points to finish fifth behind Danbury (136 points), Staples (89), Trumbull (62), and Brien McMahon (54).
Leading the Ridgefield girls was sophomore Emma Langis, who won an individual event and ran the anchor leg on a first-place relay team.
Breaking her own school record, Langis triumphed in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 44.75 seconds. She had set the previous mark of 45.12 earlier this month.
Langis also teamed with Carolyn Donovan, Anna Landler and Grace Michalowski to give the Tigers a first-place finish in the 4x400 relay (3:59.17).
Landler (third, 47.44) and Donovan (fourth, 47.70) also scored points for Ridgefield in the 300 hurdles, as the Tigers had three of the top-four finishers.
Gabriella Viggiano contributed points in two events for Ridgefield, placing second in the 1600 (5:09.56) and eighth in the 800 (2:26.12)
Adding points with top-eight individual finishes were Amelia Hynes in the 800 (fifth, 2:24.00), Eyga Williamson in the 100-meter dash (sixth, 13.14); Caitlin Inall in the pole vault (tie for sixth, 8'0"), and Julia McSpedon in the javelin (sixth, 90'3").
The Tigers were fourth in the 4x800 relay (9:58.13) and seventh in the 4x100 relay (51.39).
Justin Showstead was the standout for the Ridgefield boys team. Showstead won the javelin with a toss of 169'3" and also placed third in the shot put (49'1").
Oliver Hayes was third in the pole vault (13'0"), while Simon Jupp finished fourth in the 400-meter dash (50.32) and Kevin Arnold was fourth in the 800 (1:57.82)
Aidan Williams added a fifth-place finish in the 300 hurdles (42.08), and James Ball was sixth in the high jump (5'6")
Ridgefield scored points in all three relays, finishing second in the 4x400 (3:27.27), fifth in the 4x100 (44.58), and sixth in the 4x800 (8:38.39).
