Ridgefield ski teams sweep second meet
In the first two races this season, no one has been faster than the Ridgefield High boys or girls ski teams.
Both remained unbeaten by sweeping their head-t0-head opponents last Wednesday at Mount Southington. And — for the second straight race — both Ridgefield squads also finished first overall among all the teams competing.
The Ridgefield boys had a team time of 278.31 seconds to defeat Daniel Hand (287.37), Cheshire Academy (339.6), and Westhill (355.01).
By just 30-hundredths of a second, the Tigers edged Wilton (278.61) for first place among the 14 teams competing.
Ridgefield's Declan McNamara and Jakob Robinson were the top-two individual finishers in a field of 154 skiers. McNamara was first overall with a two-run combined time of 44.43 seconds, with Robinson placing second in 44.93.
The Tigers' four other scoring skiers also finished in the top-20 overall. Alex Bornstein was 10th (46.63), followed by Joseph Pastore (12th, 46.72), Eliot Hynes (17th, 47.61), and Luke Faillaci (19th, 47.99).
Ridgefield's seventh finisher, Owen Cherner, was 20th overall in a time of 48.30.
The Ridgefield girls were even more dominant, posting a team time of 292.63 seconds to beat Hand (300.17), Cheshire Academy (333.42), and Westhill (364.42) in head-to-head races.
The Tigers were more than seven seconds faster than Wilton (298.89), which was second overall among all 11 teams competing.
Riley Peters led Ridgefield with a third-place finish in a combined time of 46.98.
Adding top-10 overall finishes were teammates Isabel Redrup (48.05) and Lauren Tsai (48.32), who were seventh and ninth, respectively.
Julia Bragg (13th, 48.80), Grace Bucci (17th, 50.22), and Echo Nielsen (18th, 50.26) also contributed to Ridgefield's team time.
