Ridgefield ski teams keep sweeping

The Ridgefield High boys and girls ski teams both remained unbeaten by sweeping their opponents last Wednesday at Mt. Southington.

The Ridgefield girls dominated the competition, posting a team time of 310.95 seconds to beat Wilton (330.13), St. Luke's (347.64), Hopkins (348.29), Pomperaug (357.62), and Cheshire (379.77) in head-t0-head races.

Four Ridgefield skiers placed in the top-10 overall out of a field of 153 racers.

Riley Peters was first for the Tigers and fourth overall in a two-run combined time of 49.13 seconds. Teammates Isabel Redrup (50.67), Lauren Tsai (50.87), and Julia Bragg (50.92) were seventh, eighth, and ninth, respectively.

Also contributing to Ridgefield's team time were Echo Nielsen (18th, 54.26) and Grace Bucci (19th, 55.10).

The Ridgefield boys faced a much tougher challenge in order to stay undefeated. The Tigers registered a team time of 288.89 seconds to edge Wilton (288.99) by one-10th of a second.

Ridgefield also got head-to-head wins over Pomperaug (329.68), Cheshire (337.65), Hopkins (341.82), St. Luke's (disqualified), and Westbrook (disqualified).

Declan McNamara and Jakob Robinson were fourth and fifth overall (in a field of 195 skiers) for the Tigers with respective times of 46.01 and 46.32.

Joseph Pastore (13th, 48.05), Luke Faillaci (15th, 48.28), Eliot Hynes (21st, 49.30), and Owen Cherner (31st, 50.93) also had their times count for Ridgefield.

Notes: McNamara and Robinson have both made the Team Connecticut boys squad that will compete against skiers from 12 other states later this season.

The 12 skiers with the fastest combined time from the recent giant slalom and slalom shootouts were automatically selected to Team Connecticut.

McNamara qualified first overall with a combined time of 101.98 seconds from his two best giant slalom and slalom runs. Robinson finished 10th overall in a combined time of 107.86 seconds.

Bragg and Tsai are alternates for the Team Connecticut girls squad. Bragg finished 15th overall and Tsai was 16th in the combined giant slalom and slalom shootout standings.
