Ridgefield girls third, boys 7th at track divisionals

Victories in all four relay races helped the Ridgefield High girls indoor track and field team finish third at the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference Eastern Division championship Saturday at Wilton High School.

The Tigers had 73 points to edge host Wilton by one point. Fairfield Ludlowe was first with 113 points, followed by Darien (85 points) in second place.

Forty of Ridgefield's points came from sweeping the relays. Samantha Petruzzelli, Carolyn Donovan, Tasha Riek, and Carrina Dabroi got the Tigers going by combining to win the 4x225-meter relay in a time of 2:12.62.

Anna Landler, Caitlin Slaminko, Grace Michalowski, and Emma Langis triumphed in the 4x375 relay (4:02.78), and Landler, Michalowski, Gabriella Viggiano, and Langis finished first in the 4x750 relay (9:33.77).

Alyssa Gagnon, Katherine Langis, Donovan, and Michalowski completed the sweep with a victory in the sprint medley relay (4:22.12).

Ridgefield's best individual finish came from Nicole Nielsen, who cleared 7'0" to place second in the pole vault.

Julia Hergenrother added a third-place finish for the Tigers in the 1,000-meter race with a time of 3:20.15.

Also contributing points with top-six finishes were Dabroi (fourth, 6.78) and Sofia Gasparo (fifth, 6.83) in the 45-meter dash; Jennifer Paul (fifth, 47.54) in the 300-meter dash; Elizabeth Jasminski (fifth, 12:42.68) in the 3,200; Amanda Condron (fourth, 5'00") and Eliza Overlock (sixth, 4'10") in the high jump; and Sarah Cordisco (fourth, 28'7.50") in the shot put.

Scoring in four events, the Ridgefield boys team finished with 25 points to tie Wilton for seventh place at the FCIAC East Divisional meet.

Fairfield Warde was first with 95 points, followed by Fairfield Ludlowe in second place with 81 points.

Oliver Hayes cleared 12'6" to win the pole vault and lead the Tigers.

Justin Showstead added a second-place finish in the shot put with a toss of 45'7.25".

Ridgefield's remaining points came from two relay teams. Ethan Mackenzie, Charles MacArthur, Omkar Ratnaparkhi, and Leo Rector finished third in the 4x750 relay (8:44.76), and Ben Baker, Dominic Bonfiglio, Will Baker, and Grant Harmer were sixth in the 4x225 relay (2:04.08).

Notes: The Ridgefield boys and girls teams will compete at the FCIAC championships this Thursday at Hillhouse High School in New Haven.
