The Ridgefield High boys hockey team capped an undefeated regular season with a 7-1 Senior Night victory over Westhill-Stamford on Monday at the Winter Garden Ice Arena.

With a 20-0-0 record, the Tigers are the first CIAC (Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference) Division I team to finish the regular season since New Canaan in 2011.

Ranked first in the GameTimeCT state poll, Ridgefield is also the top-seed for the Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference playoffs. The Tigers receive a first-round bye and will play in the semifinals next Wednesday (Feb. 27) at the Winter Garden (time TBA).

On Monday night, Will Forrest's goal (assisted by Nick Cullinan) opened the scoring for the Tigers. Forrest notched his second goal soon after, with Cullinan and Simon van Wees providing the assists.

A goal by Kees van Wees, on assists from Owen Luft and Will Stewart, gave Ridgefield a 3-0 lead at the end of the first period.

Almost immediately after the start of the second period, Westhill-Stamford got its first goal, courtesy of Jason Marchese. Ridgefield answered when Forrest scored a power-play goal, completing his hat trick and putting the Tigers ahead 4-1. Matt Walker and Cullinan assisted on the goal.

Will Stewart widened Ridgefield’s lead with a goal assisted by Kees van Wees, who then slotted home the next goal to make it 6-1.

Walker's goal, on an assist from Forrest, was the only scoring in a relatively uneventful third period.
