For the seventh consecutive season, the Ridgefield High boys volleyball team will play in the conference finals.

The second-seeded Tigers swept third-seed Darien, 3-0, in an FCIAC semifinal match Wednesday night at Fairfield Ludlowe. Ridgefield won the match by scores of 25-20, 25-22, and 25-19.

The Tigers will now return to Ludlowe to face unbeaten top-seed Staples in the FCIAC championship match Friday night at 7 p.m. Staples defeated fourth-seed Trumbull, 3-0, in the other semifinal on Wednesday.

Ridgefield (17-2) will look to avenge its only two losses this season — both by scores of 3-0 to Staples — and also earn the second FCIAC title in program history. The Tigers are 1-5 in the last six conference finals, winning in 2012 and losing the past five years.

In Wednesday's semifinal victory, Ridgefield got 34 assists, six digs and four service points from setter Andrew Knachel. Christian DeVivo added 22 kills, 12 digs and 12 service points (five aces), and Chris Knachel had 10 kills and 11 digs.

Defensive specialists Will Hunter and Eric von Recklinghausen each contributed eight digs.

For Darien, Tyler Herget finished with 16 kills, five service points and six digs. Piers Roofthooft added nine kills and five service points, and Jackson Leone 28 assists and six digs.
