Displaying its depth, the Ridgefield High boys ski team ended the 2018 season with an impressive third-place finish at the State Open championships on Wednesday at Mount Southington.

The Tigers had a team time of 264.54 seconds to edge fourth-place Wilton (264.67).

Fairfield Prep finished first (259.12) and the Fairfield Warde/Ludlowe combined team was second (263.53).

Led by Jakob Robinson, Ridgefield placed its six scoring skiers in the top 42 of the individual standings. Robinson had a two-run combined time of 42.64 seconds to finish seventh overall out of  127 skiers.

Niels van Beek was second for the Tigers and 22nd overall with a time of 43.62 seconds, and teammate Alex Bornstein finished 31st with a time of 44.11.

Ridgefield's three other scoring skiers were separated by only .09 seconds: Will Coffin was 40th (44.67), Alex O'Reilly 41st (44.74), and Eliot Hynes 42nd (44.76).

Close behind were two more Tigers, as Jimmy Kulik finished 45th (44.87) and Joseph Pastore was 46th (44.88).

In the girls State Open championship, Ridgefield had a team time of 290.54 seconds to place ninth overall.

Riley Peters was superb for the Tigers, finishing fifth overall with a two-run time of 44.27 seconds.

Lauren Tsai added a top-25 finish for Ridgefield, taking 21st overall in a time of 46.10.

Also contributing to Ridgefield's team time were Sierra Gundersen (47th, 48.22), Ellie Cross (62nd, 49.89), Arden Grant (72nd, 50.90), and Lily Faillaci (77th, 51.16).

Notes: Fairfield won the girls State Open championship with a team time of 276.60 seconds. Staples (279.02) was second and Weston (281.46) third.

Thirteen teams competed in the boys State Open and 11 teams took part in the girls State Open.
