Girls lacrosse: Ridgefield tops Warde, 14-3
With Caitlin Slaminko and Maeve Tobin combining to score 10 goals, the Ridgefield High girls lacrosse team pulled away for a 14-3 victory over Fairfield Warde on Tuesday in Fairfield.
Ridgefield led by only two goals, 4-2, at halftime before outscoring Warde, 10-1, in the second half.
Slaminko finished with six goals and an assist and Tobin added four goals for the Tigers, who are now 5-4 going into tonight's home game against Danbury.
In a good all-around performance, Caroline Curnal contributed two goals, two assists, four ground balls, and three forced turnovers for Ridgefield.
Karley Smith had a goal and an assist, while Katie Hoban scored one goal and Mae Briody had two assists.
Ridgefield goalie Lexi Held made 10 saves.
"The entire defense came together as a unit during the second half to keep Warde's scoring at a minimum," said Ridgefield head coach Cece Berger. "Erika Linke was relentless on defense all over the field and forced two huge turnovers ..."
Notes: The Tigers controlled 12 of 17 draws, including eight in the second half to maintain possession.
