The first Ridgefield High teams to compete this fall are still unbeaten.

The RHS boys and girls cross country teams opened the season with sweeps on Monday at home.

Placing its five scoring runners in the top-seven overall, the Ridgefield girls easily defeated Fairfield Warde (16-47), Wilton (18-43) and Stamford (15-50).

Senior Tess Pisanelli led the Tigers with a first-place overall finish in a time of 15 minutes, 41.53 seconds for the 4,000-meter course.

Right behind Pisanelli was sophomore teammate Katie Rector, who was running her first cross country race. Rector finished second overall in 15:42.11.

Senior Elizabeth Jasminski was fourth in 16:05.02, with junior Rory McGrath finishing fifth in 16:05.41.

Senior Katie Langis also contributed to the Tigers’ team score by placing seventh overall in 16:15.73.

Two Ridgefield freshmen added top-10 overall finishes: Georgia Keller was ninth (16:23.47) and Regan McGrath was 10th (16:33.90).

The Ridgefield boys team wasn’t as dominant but still came away with three wins. The Tigers edged Wilton, 28-29, and added victories over Fairfield Warde (24-35) and Stamford (17-43).

Sophomore Jon-Paul Karpf was Ridgefield’s top runner, finishing second overall in a time of 13:59.06 for the 4K course.

Also placing in the top-10 overall for the Tigers were senior Charles MacArthur (fifth, 14:15.54) and sophomore Matthew McDonough (seventh, 14:19.21).

Sophomore Kaden Thompson (12th, 14:34.23) and senior Colin Tarpey (13th, 14:39.46) rounded out Ridgefield’s team scoring.

Adding top-20 overall finishes for Ridgefield were sophomores Ryan Donovan (15th, 14:51.81) and Henri Vieltojarvi (17th, 15:04.04).

Notes: Gregory Vogt of Fairfield Warde was first overall in the boys’ race with a time of 13:22.91.
