Bucknell wins RBA boys house division title
Bucknell completed its improbable run to a title in the Ridgefield Basketball Association's 6th/7th grade boys house division with a 29-23 victory over St. Lawrence in the championship game.
Bucknell's balanced offense featured eight points from Justin Agliardo, seven from J.J. Schachinger, six from Chris Keating, four from James Feenan, and two apiece from Nico Genna and Caleb Kaufman. Will Carter and Sam Young combined for six rebounds for the Bison.
Devin Cortes led St. Lawrence with 11 points. Brendan Moriarty added six points while Brody Apinis had four and Tate Reney contributed two. Qijia Fan and Ben Gordon provided strong rebounding efforts for the Saints.
Bucknell reached the title game by beating Wichita State, 36-29, in double overtime in the semifinals.
Schachinger led the offensive charge for the Bison with 15 points. Keating added 10 points and Agliardo had six points. Feenan contributed four points and Genna hit a foul shot to round out the scoring. Carter grabbed seven rebounds and Young made several key steals.
Nikolai Bonwetsch powered Wichita State with 14 points. Jack Clancy had nine points, and Ian Pecson, Payton Stefura and Connor Webb chipped in with a bucket apiece.
In a second-round playoff game, Bucknell rallied to beat a terrific Wake Forest team, 29-25.
The Bison got nine points from Agliardo, eight from Schachinger, and six apiece from Feenan and Keating. Carter hauled in five rebounds, and Genna and Kaufman each had several nice assists. Young applied tenacious defense in a game that was tight from the opening tip through the final whistle.
Peyton Mancini was virtually unstoppable for Wake Forest, scoring 18 points on a variety of drives and outside shots. Matt Ratnavel added four points and Jake Terry had three points.
