RIDGEFIELD — A stretch of Route 35 through town was expected to remain closed into the evening commute hours Friday after a one-car crash overnight took down a utility pole.

Police said the accident occurred on Main Street just before 11 p.m. Thursday.

“The motor vehicle was traveling southbound when it crossed over the northbound lane striking a utility pole on the opposite side of road causing it to break and fall into the roadway,” officials said in a press release.

The driver, a 26-year-old Danbury woman, was taken to Danbury Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

The section of Route 35 between Pound and Gilbert streets will remain closed until about 5 p.m. as utility crews work at the scene, according to police.

Police said the incident is still under investigation.
