William G. Side, 86, of Hackettstown, New Jersey, a New York City native and 35-year resident of Brookfield, Connecticut, passed away September 18, after a long illness. Born December 21, 1928 to George and Adeline, Bill grew up on Long Island and graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and for 40 years was a mechanical contractor specializing in heating and cooling systems for schools and office buildings. He and beloved wife Marion were married for 64 years and raised two children, Kenneth (Elizabeth), of Ridgefield, Connecticut, and Carolyn (Tim) Norton of Hackettstown, New Jersey. Grandchildren include T. J. and Aiden Norton, Samantha, Abigail, Kevin, and Veronica Side. During retirement, Bill opened a small woodworking shop and for the next 18 years supplied saddlery shops and restored antique furniture. He also was a longtime member of the Brookfield Lions Club. He and Marion were also spent a lot of time traveling throughout the world. Bill\u2019s greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family in the home he built on Candlewood Lake. Visitation will be held from 2-4 pm on Sunday, September 21, 2014, at the Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840. Services will begin at 4 pm Sunday with Rev. Dr. Frank Fowler officiating. Cremation will be private.
