Rudolph M. DeDivitis, 87, deputy police chief

Rudolph M. DeDivitis, 87, of Ridgefield, formerly of Yonkers, N.Y., retired 1st Deputy Chief of the Yonkers Police Department, died on Monday, July 11, at Danbury Hospital. He was the husband of the late Norene (DeGregorio) DeDivitis. DeDivitis was born in Yonkers, N. Y., Dec. 21, 1928, a son of Michael and Lucy (Altamuro) DeDivitis. A resident of Yonkers for 80 years before moving to Ridgefield, he attended Yonkers public schools and graduated from Saunders Technical High School in 1946. He attended and graduated from the F.B.I. National Academy and completed courses at the University of Virginia and the City College of New York. He was appointed a patrolman in 1953, served all four precincts and was made deputy chief in 1985 and first deputy chief in 1990, retiring in 1993 after 40 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War aboard the attack transport A.P.A. 204 – U.S.S. Sarasota, including 19 months of overseas duty. A resident of Ridgefield, since 2008, he was a member of the Captains, Lieutenants & Sergeants Association, Police Benevolent Association, Columbia Association and the Cross County Power Squadron and a member of St. Elizabeth Seton Church of Ridgefield. He is survived by two daughters, Jody Lampasso and her husband, Victor and Jill Peterson and her husband, Christopher, all of Ridgefield; a brother Joseph DeDivitis and his wife, Geraldine of Spring Valley, N.Y.; five grandchildren, Jessica Arconti, Danielle Damico, Kurt Peterson, Kyle Peterson and Christopher Peterson; a great grandson, David Damico and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Chief DeDivitis was predeceased by two brothers, twin brother Michael DeDivitis and John DeDivitis. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 18, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 520 Ridgebury Road, Ridgefield, CT with the Rev. Joseph A. Prince officiating. Interment will be private and at the direction of the family. The family will receive friends at the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield, on Sunday, July 17, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ridgefield Fire Department Ambulance Fund, 6 Catoonah Street or to the Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association, 27 Governor Street, both of Ridgefield, 06877.
