Former Ridgefield resident Leo F. “Bud” Shackelford passed from this life Tuesday, March 6, 2018 in Fredericksburg, VA at the age of eighty-two. Bud and his wife, Audrey, moved to Ridgefield in 1977 and lived on Standish Drive for over twenty years where they had the great pleasure of making many lifelong friends. Long after they had retired and moved away, Ridgefield was still considered home. As chief pilot for Ingersoll Rand, Bud created its first aviation department and was based out of Westchester County Airport. Bud proudly served in that capacity until his retirement in 1998. Bud was an expert pilot, skilled sailor, and avid car enthusiast and could be found around Ridgefield at some of his favorite local haunts including The Early Bird Café and Marty Motors where he enjoyed nothing more than friendly banter with his fellow Ridgefielders. He spent many a summer racing his Star boat out of Cedar Point Yacht Club in Westport. He is survived by his wife, Audrey E. Shackelford, two sons, Kelly F. Shackelford of New Canaan, CT and Jason B. Shackelford of Roswell, GA and a daughter, Amy J. Shackelford and her husband, Roland Schwarm of Austin, TX, his brother, Albert Shackelford of Lilburn, GA, several nieces and nephews, and was preceded in death by his sister, Joan Shackelford Linne. The family will host a private memorial service for Bud later this spring and he will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s in Ridgefield. He will be greatly missed.
