Donald Ford Haacke, 88, of Ridgefield, passed away on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at his home. He was the loving husband of Mrs. Mariel (DeRoo) Haacke. Mr. Haacke was born in New York City on February 17, 1930 and grew up in Pelham Manor, NY, a son of the late Harry Henry Haacke and Ruth Ford. Graduating from Pelham Memorial High School in 1948.\u00a0 He attended and graduated from New York State School of Finance, The Insurance Institute of America, Royal Globe Insurance Company School of Insurance, Cornell University for continued education of advanced insurance training, Westchester County Airport Flight School where he successfully completed FAA examination for Commercial Pilots License, and University of Colorado graduating with a BS Degree where he was a member of Alpha Kappa Psi honorary business fraternity, where he met his wife Mariel in 1958. After Graduating from the University of Colorado in Boulder, he was employed by Royal Globe Insurance Company in the marketing and production department. After 10 years he joined A.J. Carnall Inc of Ridgefield, Ct as Vice President. In 1978 he started his own Insurance Agency as Donald F. Haacke Associates Inc. After successfully operating his own business for 23 years, he merged in 2001 with Ferguson and McGuire Insurance Agency until his death. Mr. Haacke served in the US Coast Guard for 2 years stationed in Cape May, NJ, prior to enrolling at the University of Colorado. During that time, he was involved in air jet rescue work then he transferred to Ellis Island, NY where he was involved with Military Police work. Mr. Haacke was the President of Donald F. Haacke Associates Incorporated of Ridgefield, CT. Donald moved to Ridgefield, Ct in 1965 with his wife Mariel and daughter Elizabeth. He was involved in many civic organizations. He was an original incorporator of the Ridgefield Community Center as well as serving as treasurer on the Board of Directors. Mr. Haacke was also a member if the Board of Directors of the Ridgefield Symphony. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of Keeler Tavern Museum where he served as treasurer. He was a member of the Ridgefield Rotary Club and also a member of the Ridgefield Chamber of Commerce where he served as Vice President. Mr. Haacke is survived by his wife, Mariel and his daughter Elizabeth Ibinson and Husband Sean Ibinson of Somerset, PA. In addition, survived by 2 Grandchildren Lauren Livengood and her husband Samuel Livengood of Somerset, PA. Jason Ford Olivares of Somerset, PA, two step grandchildren Ashley Ibinson and Sean Ibinson II, Great-Grandchild Jackson H. Livengood, one brother Harry Henry Haacke Jr. of Southbury, CT. He was predeceased by his parents Harry Henry Haacke Sr., Ruth Ford Haacke and brother Warren Haacke. Funeral services are private and at the direction of the family. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
