Frank Donald Amendola, Sr. of Ridgefield CT passed away on November 12, 2016, at the age of 95. Born in Harlem NY on April 5, 1921 to Joseph and Josephine Amendola, he was the youngest, and last surviving child of eight children. He was united in marriage on May 28,1950 to his beloved wife, Madeline Gordon. Devoted to one another, for 60 years, Madeline passed away in 2010. In 1945 he received his BS and Masters Degree at Columbia University. While pursuing his law degree at Fordham University he worked as a gym coach at Benjamin Franklin High School in Manhattan. After passing his Bar Exam in 1950, he was offered the position of Assistant District Attorney for the City of New York. Turning it down, he chose to become an agent on the ground floor of Allstate Insurance Company in the Bronx. He and Madeline eventually settled and raised their family in Scarsdale NY, where he also served on the board at Bonnie Briar Country Club. As a history buff, Frank found great satisfaction as a dealer and member of a New York Stamp Club for many years. In 1986 he retired and moved to Keeler Drive in Northern Ridgefield. An avid golfer, he enjoyed many rounds at Ridgefield Delhi. Frank was a member of Hope Church in Wilton CT for many years, and is most remembered as a gentle caregiver to his wife Madeline. Whether it was at church, the Post Office, doctor\u2019s offices, or Stop & Shop, many in town will remember him for his wit and charm as he loved to bring a smile and chuckle to all he met. He loved to write poetry and was published in the Ridgefield Press on numerous occasions. Frank is survived by his son Frank Amendola and wife Karen of Ridgefield, CT, his son, Steven Amendola and wife Meredith of Middletown, NJ, and his daughter Elena Gregory and husband Michael of Laurel Park, NC. Frank is also survived by seven granddaughters, two grandsons, and four great grandchildren. The family will receive friends at the Kane Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 15, from 4-8pm. A Celebration of Life service will take place on Wednesday, November 16 at 11am at Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St, Ridgefield. Burial will follow at nearby Fairlawn Cemetery.
