Elizabeth "Betty" Miller, 75, of Ridgefield, wife of Christian O. Miller, died unexpectedly on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Danbury Hospital. Betty was born in Flushing, New York, October 2, 1937, a daughter of William R.L. and Marjorie (Miller) Cook.\u00a0 Raised in Bayside, NY, Betty attended Bayside schools, Bayside High School and graduated cum laude in 1959 from Bates College, Lewiston, ME where she received her Bachelor's Degree in Education and met her future husband, Chris. She then attended Southern CT State University where she received her Master's Degree in Education in 1966. Betty was an educator with the Danbury school systems for nearly 20 years before retiring and previous to that had taught in the Branford and Cheshire school systems. Betty lived in Danbury for more than 30 years before moving to Ridgefield in 1998.She was a longtime and active member of Ridgebury Congregational Church and a member of many church committees. Betty lived, most especially, for her family and large circle of friends.\u00a0 She accompanied Chris to numerous Exchange Club and Danbury Westerner's functions and loved to travel. She also loved her regular Wednesday visits with grandchildren Alexandra and CJ before they went to school.\u00a0 She enjoyed her many, many trips all over the Unites States with long time friends. She grew to love the UConn Women's basketball team and attended the NCAA Women's Final Four 11 times over the years. She loved spending time with her many different circle of friends.\u00a0 She enjoyed attending many musicals and shows in the area and New York with Chris. She was a warm, gracious and caring person and will always be close in our hearts. She will be missed by many people whose lives she enriched by just being herself.\u00a0 She will be sorely missed. In addition to her husband of 53 years, Chris, Betty is survived by a son, Christian "Bing" Miller and his wife, Jennifer of Branford, CT; a daughter, Carole L. Bishop and son-in-law, Robert of Brookfield;\u00a0 a sister, Barbara "Bobbie" Keeney of Greenwood, SC; two grandchildren, Alexandra K. Miller and Christian "C.J." Miller and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will take place on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at 11 AM in the Ridgebury Congregational Church,605 Ridgebury Rd., Ridgefield with Rev. John D. Heeckt, Pastor officiating. Burial will follow in Ridgebury Cemetery, Ridgefield, The family will receive friends at the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield on Friday, March 29, 2013 from 4 PM to 7 PM.
