Douglas Stanley Woundy of Fairfield, Virginia, passed peacefully away at his home on Sunday, September 16, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Susan Woundy, daughters Meredith Williams of Fairfield and Barbara Bunch of Camden, SC and his sister Dolores Dee of Bethel, Ct and their families. He has three grandchildren, Olivia, Holden and Wyatt whom he adored. He is the son of the late Stanley and Isabel Woundy of Brookfield, Ct. Mr. Woundy earned his bachelor\u2019s degree from the University of Connecticut, his master\u2019s degree from Western Connecticut State University and his Ph.D. from Virginia Commonwealth University. He spent two years serving his country in the United States Army. He spent 22 years in and around the New York City area in human resource positions, rising to Vice President of a division of American Brands. In 1988 after 22 years living in Ridgefield, Ct., he and Susan moved to Fairfield, Va. He spent 6 years teaching at VMI and then the next 14 years with Averett University, retiring as Professor Emeritus in 2010. He then continued as an adjunct professor with Averett until July 2012. An avid golfer, he loved and highly valued his friends and his family. Family will receive friends on Thursday, September 20 from 6:00-8:00 at Harrison Funeral Home, Lexington, Va. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers contributions to the Marty Lyons Foundation (wwwmartylyonsfoundation.org) would be deeply appreciated.
