W. Parker Dwelley, 81, was active at St. Stephen's and in GOP

Willard Parker Dwelley, Jr. of Kennebunkport, Maine, a former Ridgefielder, died peacefully with his family surrounding him on March 8, 2013 at Southern Maine Medical Center after a short illness.

Mr. Dwelley was born June 13, 1931, in Boston, Mass., to Willard Parker Dwelley, Sr. and Irene Vaughan.  His youth and early adulthood were spent in the Belmont and Boston areas.

After graduating from Harvard University in 1953, he enlisted in the US Army where he served in the National Security Agency for three years until he was honorably discharged in July 1956.

He spent his career with IBM, starting in sales, and later developing corporate marketing practices and working with the litigation group.

Mr. Dwelley met his wife, Joan, in Hartford, and then moved and raised his family in Ridgefield, where he was an active member of St. Steven’s Episcopal Church and in local Republican politics. After retiring from IBM in 1989, he and his wife moved to  Kennebunkport.

He is survived by two sons, Parker of Acworth, Ga., and John of Brookeville, Md., as well as his grandchildren, Nathan, Olivia, Joelle, and Eibhlin.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, March 15th from 4:30-6 pm at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer Street, Kennebunk, Maine.

A service celebrating Parker’s life will be held Saturday, March 16th at 2:30 at St. David’s Episcopal Church in Kennebunk.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Parker’s memory can be made to St. David’s Episcopal Church, 138 York St., Kennebunk, ME  04043.
