Vincent Canale, 78, was active in theater

Vincent Peter Canale of Ridgefield, who had been active in community theater here for many years, died on Saturday, Aug. 18, at Danbury Hospital. He was 78 years old and husband of Rose Marie Rigano Canale.

Born April 22, 1934, in the Bronx, N.Y., Mr. Canale graduated from New York City schools at the top of his class and majored in electronics in college.

He worked for Schlumberger Doll Research here for more than 35 years, managing the electronic instruments lab. He had been president of the Schlumberger employees club.

Active in the community arts, Mr. Canale had been president and treasurer of the Ridgefield Workshop for the Performing Arts, the predecessor of today’s Ridgefield Theater Barn. He performed in many productions, locally and in summer stock, over the years.

He enjoyed many hobbies, including model trains,  boating, motorcycles, live theater, and music, especially Dixieland and blues. He also enjoyed spending time with his family.

Besides his wife of 56 years, survivors include two sons, Paul (Wendy) Canale and Peter (Suzanne) Canale; a brother; five grandchildren; and two nieces.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10:15 a.m. in St. Mary Church.

Interment will take place in St. Mary Cemetery at the direction of the family.

The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah Street, on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.
