Theresa F. Collins, 77

Theresa (Deeley) Collins, 77, of Southbury, formerly of Ridgefield, wife of Francis "Frank" J. Collins, died on Friday evening, January 22, 2016 at Danbury Hospital.

Terry was born on May 17, 1938 in New Rochelle, NY; a daughter of the late Cornelius and Ellen (Doolen) Deeley. She attended St Gabriel’s School and New Rochelle High School where she was a member of the swimming and basketball teams.

She married Frank Collins of New Rochelle on August 29, 1959. She worked at AT&T in White Plains before moving to Ridgefield, CT in 1963.

In Ridgefield she attended St Mary Church and was a member of the Rosary Guild. She was a volunteer election worker for many years and was a former member of the Danbury LAOH.

As a two-time cancer survivor she showed a tenacious joy in life’s simple pleasures.  She found great happiness in spending time and sharing news with friends and neighbors over a tall glass of iced tea, whether at home or the many establishments at which she became a regular over the years.

She delighted in baking and coloring with her 11 grandchildren and being regaled with their adventures.

She will be greatly missed by her husband of 56 years and her children  Patricia (John ) Capilli of Ridgefield, Christine Collins (Greg Davis) of Woodbury,  Maura (Douglas) Fiacco of New Fairfield, Margaret “Peggy” (Sean) Murphy of Watertown,  and Kathryn (Stephen) Metzker of Newtown.

Remembering their Nanny fondly are Cara and John Capilli; John and Erin Dibble; Daphne Fiacco; Delia, Fiona and Lily Murphy;  and Anna, Emily and Erich Metzker.

She is also survived by her sister Eileen Minton of Grand Island, NY as well as her by many dear nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother Cornelius Deeley and her sister Mary.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at 1:15 AM at St. Mary Church; 55 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, Ridgefield. Friends will be received on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 from 5 to 8 PM at Kane Funeral Home; 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield.
