Samuel J.C. Townsend Jr., 71, Yale graduate, software consultant

Samuel J.C. Townsend Jr., 71, of Ridgefield, died on Monday, April 15, 2013 after a twelve year battle with cancer and the complications from cancer treatments.

Mr. Townsend was born in Bridgeport, CT, August 15, 1941, son of Samuel J.C. and Sarah (Slawson) Townsend.

Mr. Townsend returned to Connecticut six years ago after running his own successful software consulting business for more than thirty years in Northern Virginia.  Previously, He attended Choate Rosemary Hall School of Wallingford, CT, received his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from Yale University, and his Master's degree in Business from Boston University.

He enjoyed sailing, playing the piano, travelling and spending time with family and friends.  He loved listening to rock & roll music, learning new computer programs, and playing with his dogs.

He is survived by two daughters, Jennifer E. Variale of Brookfield, CT and Kathryn T. Carmichael and her husband, Mark of Danbury, CT; a sister, Lee Townsend of West Hartford, CT and two grandchildren, Matthew and Mackenzie.

A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, April 27th, at 11:30 AM at the Ethan Allen Inn in Danbury, CT.
