Robert J. Kelly, 84, OSS agent, Navy veteran, worked for McGraw-Hill

Robert J. Kelly, 84, of Bethel, formerly of Avalon of Danbury, husband of the late Mary (McEvoy) Kelly died on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at his home.

Mr. Kelly was born in the Bronx, NY, October 12, 1927, a son of the late John and Mary (Reilly) Kelly. He attended Bronx, NY, schools and was a graduate of Fordham University.

Upon graduation from Fordham University, Mr. Kelly became a member of the Office of Strategic Services (OSS), the U.S. Intelligence Agency formed during World War II and a predecessor of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). The OSS was formed in order to coordinate espionage activities behind enemy lines for the branches of the United States Armed Forces.

Mr. Kelly was also a World War II U.S. Navy veteran.

He later joined McGraw-Hill Publishing Company of New York and became personnel administrator. He retired in 1990 after forty years of service.

Upon retirement, Mr. Kelly and his wife enjoyed travelling until her passing in September of 2011.

He was an avid NY Giants Football fan.

An area resident for the past six years coming from Clifton Park, NY, Mr. Kelly attended St. Elizabeth Seton Church of Ridgefield.

He is survived by a son, Robert E. Kelly and his wife, Diane of Ridgefield; a daughter, Geraldine M. Kelly and her husband, John Scully of New Rochelle, NY; two sisters, Joan Quinn of Hartsdale, NY and Dorothy Cunnane and her husband, Martin of Pompano Beach, FL; three grandchildren, Robby, Ryan and Amanda and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Kelly was predeceased by three brothers, Jack, Raymond and Edward and by two sisters, Elizabeth Pasquarelli and Mary Koepfler.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at 10 AM in St. Elizabeth Seton Church, 520 Ridgebury Rd., Ridgefield.

Interment will follow in St. Raymond Cemetery, Bronx, NY.

The family will receive friends in the Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 from 3 PM to 5 PM and 7 PM to 9 PM.
