Obituary: William “Bill” Itson, 80, of Ridgefield

William “Bill” Itson, 80, of Ridgefield, CT, died on April 3, 2018. Bill had suffered from a heart attack in November 2017 and had a series of complications that lead to his passing.

Bill graduated from UConn in 1961 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics and Statistics. He was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He had a professional sales and marketing career with various companies over the years within the software and technology space. Since Bill could never sit still, he continued working into his “retirement years” and worked for IMTL, a material testing and inspection lab. Bill worked closely with architects, contractors, municipalities and states personnel throughout the state of Connecticut.

Bill is survived by his wife Lynda, of 49 years, his daughter Ashley, of Boston, MA and his son Greg, of Austin, TX and his two favorite joys, his grandsons, James and Andrew. Bill is also survived by his brother Peter and his wife Nancy of Marlborough, CT and nieces Chelsey and Lindsey of North Carolina.

Bill has been a resident of Ridgefield since 1974. Since that time, he was active with his children and coached various sports in the community. He started the Ridgefield girls basketball program in 1985 for 7-8 year old girls, which grew to be hundreds of girls of all ages. He also coached youth boys sports which included soccer, baseball and basketball.

Bill was an avid history buff and loved to explore, reading every sign and plaque when visiting locations. He was often found walking in town with his signature hat on while smoking his cigar along Main Street. He loved to travel and was always up for an adventure. He also loved to ski and organized countless ski trips for friends and families in Ridgefield during the winter breaks.

Bill always enjoyed a good meal and a glass of wine. He was a kid at heart and had a real zest for life. His memory will forever live in our hearts.

Service arrangements are being privately handled by the family and an announcement will be made at a later date for a Celebration of Bill’s life. Donations may be made to the Ridgefield Fire and EMT department.
