Obituary: Rachel Croxson (Place) Polenz, 94, of Ridgefield

Rachel Croxson (Place) Polenz, 94, of Ridgefield, wife of the late Ralph H. Polenz, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, April 13, 2018 with her loving son, Richard at her side.

Born on April 23, 1923 in Brooklyn, NY, she was the daughter of the late George and Catherine (Cortelyou) Place. During WWII, Rachel studied and worked in the Empire State Building as a draftswoman.

A resident of Ridgefield for 56 years, Rachel enjoyed her home, family, gardening and raising her granddaughter, Michelle (Gentile).

Rachel is survived by 2 sons, Richard, of Ridgefield and Robert and his wife, JoAnn of Longview, TX; a niece, Susan Beaudoin, 2 nephews, John and Cort Edward Place, 8 grandchildren; Michelle, Patrick, Rebecca, Matthew and Ronny, Joshua, Kirsten and Andre of Norway. She is also survived by 5 great-grandchildren, Victoria, Vanessa and Isabella and Kevin and Herman of Norway.

She was predeceased by a son, Ronald James Polenz and a daughter, Louise Ann Cusack.

Her family would like to recognize a dear friend, Roberta (Jerry) Silbert of Guilford, CT. Her love for Rachel and our family has lasted a lifetime since the early years in Corona, NY. Rachel was the heart of her family and will be forever loved and missed by all the lives she touched. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 1:00 PM in Fairlawn Cemetery, Ridgefield.
