Emeline Lynch Wittman, known to all as Dolly, was born on June 13, 1928 in New York City and died in Bradenton, Florida, on October 22, 2018, aged 90. Her greatest loves were her family and her home town of Ridgefield, Connecticut.

Her parents, Emeline Danforth Starr and John Hampton Lynch, Jr., met in Ridgefield, where both their families spent summers. Dolly lived most of her life on and around West Mountain Farm in Ridgefield, which was built by her paternal grandfather in 1914. There she and her husband, Joseph Henry Wittman, Jr., raised their four children, Cynthia Emeline Wittman, Kevin Lynch Wittman, Meg Starr Wittman, and Andrew Joseph Wittman.

Dolly showed her commitment to her community through decades of volunteer work with the Ridgefield Garden Club, the Ridgefield Library, the Ridgefield Visiting Nurse Association, Ridgefield Meals on Wheels and the Women in War Service scholarship fund. She was a lifelong member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, where she enjoyed working on the altar guild and helping to renovate the rectory and other historic buildings on the parish campus. Beyond her enduring love for her family and town, Dolly was also a fiercely loyal friend, and was unfailingly kind to all who knew her.

She was predeceased by her husband and by her sister, Lucy Moffitt Lynch Park. In addition to her children, she is survived by her brother John Hampton Lynch III and sister-in-law Gay Ord Pollock Lynch, and her grandchildren Nicole Starr Allen, Lily Wittman van Diepen, Olivia Mae Wittman and Isabel Wittman.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 21, at 10:00am at St. Stephen’s Church, 351 Main Street, Ridgefield, CT 06877. A reception will follow.

Donations in Dolly’s memory can be made to the Ridgefield Garden Club (PO Box 105, Ridgefield, CT, 06877) or the Gift of Life Transplant House (705 Second Street SW, Rochester, MN 55902), an organization that assisted her son Kevin during a time of need.
