Obituary: Elizabeth Holland, 98, Ridgefielder's mother

Elizabeth (Elma) Holland, 98, of Ridgefield, mother of Diana E. Ward of Ridgefield, died on Sunday evening, Aug. 18, at Hancock Hall, Danbury.

She was born in East Kilbride, Scotland, on March 26, 1915, daughter of the late James Lawson and Christina McLean. At three years old, she and her family came to the United States where she attended high school in Jackson, Mich. The family returned to Scotland when she was 16 and there she completed her education. She returned to the United States in 1968 after the marriage of her daughter and spent the rest of her life here, living in Georgetown, Pa. and moving to the New York area in 1970s to be closer to her family. She worked in finance for a variety of companies, retiring from Parsons and Whittemore in 1981, after which she continued her career as Chief Financial Officer for the Ward family business, Wildlife Artists, Inc. until she was 86.

A memorial service will take place on Thursday, Aug. 29, at 1 p.m. in the First Congregational Church, Ridgefield. There will be no calling hours.

Survivors include Diana E. Ward and her husband, Gerry, of Ridgefield; granddaughter Caroline Ward of Norwalk, James Ward and his wife, Hollie, of Southbury; Gary Ward and his wife, Tricia, of Basking Ridge, N.J., and seven great grandchildren.

Contributions in her memory may be made to the First Congregational Church, 103 Main Street or the Visiting Nurse Association, 90 East Ridge.
