Obituary: Alda (Cappelloni) Carboni, 98, of Ridgefield

Alda (Cappelloni) Carboni, 98, of Ridgefield, loving wife of the late Vasinto Carboni, passed away on Friday, March 23, 2018.

Mrs. Carboni was born in New Haven, CT on December 14, 1919, a daughter of the late Alfredo and Santina (Torcellini) Cappelloni.

Mrs. Carboni graduated from Hill House High School, and later from Stone College, where she won the coveted Silver Cup in Business. She was inducted into Alpha Iota Sorority, a national honorary society.

A resident of Ridgefield for the past 72 years, Mrs. Carboni worked at Schlumberger Doll, and in 1964 established the Candlelight Shoppe of Ridgefield which was later acquired by her daughter, Pamela, in 1981. She had a passion for gardening, opera, art, painting, and traveling. She was also an avid reader, especially of historical books. Mrs. Carboni was an active member of Founders Hall, the Ridgefield Community Center, and was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church of Ridgefield.

Mrs. Carboni is survived by one daughter: Pam (Kevin) Fitzpatrick, and two sons: Jim (Joan) Carboni and Vin (Mary Jane) Carboni. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Melissa (Aaron) Staley, Derek (Bridget) Carboni, Valerie (Nick) Castillo, Tori Carboni, Kevin (Jessica) Fitzpatrick, Caitlin Fitzpatrick, Christina Carboni, and Catherine Carboni, as well as 1 great-grandson, Dylan Staley, and many nieces and nephews. In addition, Mrs. Carboni is survived by 2 sisters: Irma Biancur and Celeste (John) Stocking. Mrs. Carboni was also predeceased by 2 sisters: Lina Baldaserini and Amelia Silvestrini, as well as 3 brothers-in-law: Primo Baldaserini, Pino Silvestrini, and Ben Biancur.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at 10:15 AM, at St. Mary’s Church, 55 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield. Interment will take place at a later date in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Ridgefield. Friends will be received on Wednesday, March 28, 2018, from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, at Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah Street, Ridgefield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Meals on Wheels of Ridgefield or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
