Marvin W. Gaumer, 89, Navy veteran, electrical engineer

Marvin W. Gaumer, 89, of Ridgefield, husband of the late Mary Jane (Bugbee) Gaumer, died at his residence on Tuesday, October 8, 2013.

Mr. Gaumer was born in Los Angeles, CA, December 17, 1923, son of Thomas M. and Naomi (Siegried) Gaumer.  He attended California schools, enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during  World War II.

During his enlistment in the U.S. Navy, Mr. Gaumer met his future wife, Mary Jane, at a USO Dance. He has been an area resident since 1945.

A retired electrical engineer with Perkin Elmer Corp., Mr. gaumer was the holder of two patents.

He was an avid crossword puzzle enthusiast, he enjoyed attending social events at the Italian Club and would be considered a “foodie” due to his frequent dining out.

Mr. Gaumer is survived by a son, Brian Gaumer of Ridgefield; a daughter, Nancy L. Gaumer of New Haven, CT; grandchildren, Elyzabeth Gaumer. Laurie McCurley, Heath Erskine, Heather Erskine and Holly Erskine.  Great grandchildren also survive.

In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Gaumer was predeceased by a grandson, Mac McCurley.

Services were private and at the direction of the family.

Kane Funeral Home, 25 Catoonah St., Ridgefield was in charge of arrangements.
