Louis H. Price, 66, owned Ridgefield Supply

Louis Henry Price, 66, who owned and operated The Ridgefield Supply Company for over 40 years, passed away in his Ridgefield home surrounded by his family on Sunday morning, Feb. 23.

Louis was a lifelong Ridgefield resident, born October 29, 1947 to Louis H. Price Sr. and Elizabeth (Bell) Price. He grew up on Peaceable Hill Road.  Louis graduated from Shapley School in 1966.

On June 2, 1973 Louis married  Jo-Anne (Tomanio) Price at the First Congregational Church in town.

The Ridgefield Supply Company became Louis’ passion as he guided it from a traditional cash-and-carry yard to the contractor yard and hardware store it is today. He was involved right up to the end with the planning of the redesign of Ridgefield Supply that will start later on this year.

In 2004, he founded Kleer Lumber, a PVC Trimboard plant in Westfield, MA, that grew to be one of the leading producers in the country before it was sold in 2012. He was so proud that he started a USA based manufacturing company during the economic downturn. He purchased equipment that was made in the USA and only used raw materials from USA providers.

He received numerous awards within the lumber industry during his over 45 years as a lumberman.   He sat on buying and planning committees for the different organizations he served on and was particularly proud of his service in the founding of Housatonic Habitat for the Humanities.

Louis also had a passion for cars, preferably fast ones. He would go to various racing schools around the country to learn the art of racing and prided himself in his driving skills on the road.

Besides his loving wife of nearly 41 years, Louis is survived by his daughter, Margaret Price Sims, husband, Sean D. Sims and two loving Grandsons, Mark Gavin Sims and Paul Louis Sims. He is also survived by his brother the Reverend Stephen W. Price of Downingtown, PA and his sister, Elizabeth Price LaPorte of Glastonbury, CT.

A Memorial Service will take place on Friday, February 28, 2014 at 11:00 AM, at the First Congregational Church, 103 Main Street, Ridgefield Connecticut with the Rev. Dr. Charles Hambrick-Stowe officiating.

Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Regional Hospice and Home Care of Western CT (39 Old Ridgebury Road, Danbury CT 06810) or the First Congregational Church of Ridgefield (103 Main Street, Ridgefield CT 06877) in Louis’ memory.
