Lois Whitehead Wilson, 81, grew up in Ridgefield

Lois (Whitehead) Wilson, 81 of Ormond Beach, Florida, formerly of Danbury, died on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Florida Hospital Memorial Medical Center, Oceanside, FL after being stricken ill at home.

She was the wife of the late Leon "Lem" Wilson.

Mrs. Wilson was born in Norwalk, CT, March 23, 1931, daughter of Harry Lyman and Laura (Staib) Whitehead and raised in Ridgefield where she attended Ridgefield schools and graduated from Ridgefield High School.

For many years, Mrs. Wilson was a secretary for Rabbi Jerome R. Malino and the United Jewish Center, Danbury. Upon moving to Florida in 1988, Mrs. Wilson was a eldercare advocate and was employed by the Council on Aging, Daytona Beach, FL. She was also very active in the United Church of Christ when a resident of Danbury and currently in Florida and had served on many committees and in many role capacities.

She was a past member of the Ridgebury Congregational Church of Ridgefield and presently a member of the Union Congregational United Church of Christ Church of Holly Hill, FL.

Mrs. Wilson is survived by a son, Charles Wilson of Ormond Beach, FL; two daughters, Deborah Amarosa of Bethel, CT and Jennifer Wilson of Ormond Beach, FL; two brothers, Harry L. Whitehead of Murrells Inlet, SC and David L. Whitehead of Ridgefield, CT and several nieces and nephews.

A Private Graveside Burial Service will take place in Center Cemetery, Bethel at the direction of the family.

A Memorial Service for family and friends will take place on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 4:00 PM in the Ridgebury Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, 605 Ridgebury Rd., Ridgefield, CT with the Rev. John David Heeckt and the Rev. Bonnie Bardot officiating.

The family will receive friends in Shields Hall of the Ridgebury Congregational Church immediately following the Memorial Service.

There will be no calling hours.
