Lars Linden, 81, owned charter airline

Lars Edwin Linden, a former Ridgefield resident, died on Nov. 2, in Hudson, Fla.

He was born on Sept. 5, 1934 in Nykarleby, Finland. At age four, he immigrated to the U.S. with his parents, John Linden and Aili Virtanen. He attended the University of Michigan. He married Carolyn Erickson in 1957 and they celebrated their 25th anniversary in Ridgefield. He was widowed in 1985. He married Janet Palmer in 1988 and they later divorced.

He had a 39-year career as a professional pilot with his own private air charter company, beginning in 1967. He started with one Beechcraft twin engine plane and grew the business to an operation employing 18 pilots and operating eight Learjets and a G-2.

He logged at least 19,500 hours of flight time and wrote a memoir about his high-flying adventures with celebrities, government officials, and CEOs all over the world.

He is survived by his son, Lars Paul Linden of Scituate, Mass.; daughters, Julia Frazier Brooklyn, N.Y., Laura Linden of Ridgefield, and Alexandria Linden of Boston; and two grandchildren, Emily Frazier of Charleston, S.C., and Lindsey Frazier of Brooklyn, N.Y.

A memorial service took place on Nov. 6 in New Port Richey, Fla.

A grave site service will be held on Nov. 16 at 11 a.m. at St Mary’s Cemetery.
