John J. Hazel, 79, longtime Ridgefielder

John J. Hazel 79, of Ridgefield, entered into Gods loving hands on July 9th, 2014.

A 50 year resident of Ridgefield CT., John was born in New York City to Richard P. and Maria A. Hazel (nee Lowe) on October 21st 1934.

John moved from Staten Island, NY. to Ridgefield CT. in 1964 and worked in Manhattan as an Accountant for Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. retiring in 1980. From 1980, John had settled into working out of his home as an Enrolled Agent providing Tax Preparation services, which he continued until his recent passing. John was an active member of St. Mary’s parish where he sang in the adult choir for decades.

He will be best remembered as a tireless and generous friend of Bill’s where he inaugurated AA meetings in the local and federal prisons for those suffering from Alcohol and Drug addictions insuring his legacy and spirit lives on. John was quick witted and had a tremendous sense of humor

To the chagrin of their parents, he was always willing to teach life lessons in finance to his many nieces and nephews via the game of poker. To his loved ones, he was always known as “The Fun Uncle”. He was extremely proud of his Irish heritage and his enthusiasm spilled out a “Bit O’ Irish” upon all that knew him.

John was predeceased by his parents, his eldest brother, Gerard B. Hazel of Indialantic Fl., his elder brother and his wife Richard P. and Mary Hazel of Carmel NY.

He is survived by his sister-in-law Isabel K. Hazel of Lawrenceville NJ, three nieces, Isabel Cummings, Clare Staples and Elizabeth Samani, and six nephews, Richard, Paul, Gerard, Stephen, Mark and Anthony Hazel. He is also survived by Michael Cummings, Joanne Hazel and Peter Samani along with several grand nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at St Mary’s in Ridgefield CT. on July 26th at 1:15pm. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorial contributions go to the Ridgefield Animal Rescue at 45 South St. Ridgefield CT.
