Jean DePreta, 100, native of Italy, fashion designer, Ridgefielder's mother

Jean  P. DePreta , 100, of Stamford passed away peacefully September 30, 2012 after living a full century of adventure and love.

Jean was born in Pescara, Italy on January 16, 1912 to the late Frank and Maria Ciaudelli Petrucci.

She came to the United States with her mother, Maria Ciaudelli Petrucci, in 1921 to meet her father, Frank Petrucci, who had earlier settled and made a life for them in Stamford. After attending St. John’s Roman Catholic School, Jean began learning the art of sewing women’s clothing which she perfected and soon started her own business of designing and making women’s fashions. Jean was a devoted mother, grandmother, and homemaker.

Jean is survived by her four children Phyllis Romano and her husband Sam of Ridgefield, CT, Vincent DePreta and his wife Linda, Lorraine dePreta, Joseph DePreta and his wife Laura, all of Stamford; four grandchildren Anthony Romano, Darren Romano, Dean DePreta, and Zoe DePreta, as well as eight great grandchildren, Scott, Justin , Charles, Ethan and Anna Romano, Joseph, Dean and Michaela DePreta.

Besides her parents, Jean was predeceased by her husband Joseph DePreta and her four brothers, Norf,  Philip, Fred and Frank Petrucci.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s RC Church, 566 Elm Street, Stamford. Interment will follow at St. John’s RC Cemetery, Darien. There will be no calling hours. The Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford, CT 06902 is honored to assist the DePreta family with the arrangements.
