Jacob A. Heiden, 85, World War II veteran, former Ridgefielder

Jacob A. Heiden,  85, formerly of Ridgefield, passed away in Sarasota, Florida on Wednesday, October 24, 2012.

Born in Bronx, New York Mr. Heiden had been a local resident since 1976.

He was a retired engineer who had proudly served with the 82nd Airborne Division Band, United States Army Paratroopers in WWII.

An accomplished trumpet player, Mr. Heiden loved music and was also a former member of the Jazz Club of Sarasota. Once the co-owner and founder of the Zebra Lounge in Brookfield, Conn. he enjoyed the young patrons, he made sure it was a good musical experience for them. He also ran Marina West in Sarasota with his family.

Survivors include his loving wife of 64 years, Betty Jo, sons, Robert Heiden, of Sarasota, Richard (Erin) Heiden of Tarpon Springs. William (Cristina) Heiden, of Wellesley, Mass, James (Jill) Heiden, of Ferndale, WA. daughter, Lee Heiden-Schock of Sarasota, and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at a later date.
