Grace E. Grainger, home economics teacher

Grace Grainger of Southbury, formerly of Ridgefield, died Friday, November 13, 2015. Born March 20, 1934 in Erie, PA, she was the youngest daughter of Earl and Grace Thomas. She is survived by her beloved husband John “Jack” Grainger. She was predeceased by her first husband, Frank P. Kacprowicz who died in 1992, and her sister Shirley Mannion. She was the loving mother of Mark and Sarah Kacprowicz of Natick, MA, Karen and Irek Biernat of Bristol, CT and Timothy and Deborah Kacprowicz of Boynton Beach, FL. She was the devoted grandmother of Brian, Amy, Emily, Krista, Mary, Adam, Julia, and Evan. She is survived by her sister Phyllis Michel and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her stepchildren, Pamela Kubilus and William Grainger of FL, and their spouses and children.

Grace taught Home Economics/Culinary Arts in Ridgefield Public Schools for 24 years, retiring in 1995. She received her B.S. degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and her M.S. degree from Western Connecticut State College. Grace was named Ridgefield Teacher of the Year in 1987 and Connecticut Home Economics Association Teacher of the Year in 1988, for her development of an innovative food service education program. In 1988, she received a Distinguished Alumni Award from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Grace was an active member at St. James Lutheran Church in Southbury, CT. She had a great love for music. In her younger years she enjoyed singing, and playing piano, organ, and hand bells.

Calling hours will be Thursday November 19th, from 5-7 P.M. at the Munson Lovetere Funeral Home, 235 Main Street North, Southbury, CT. Services will be Friday November 20th at 1:30 P.M. at St. James Lutheran Church, 111 Peter Rd. Southbury. Burial will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ridgefield.
