Ellen McAllister Perrott, 75, longtime hospice volunteer

Ellen McAllister Perrott, 75, of Ridgefield, Connecticut, died peacefully in her home on July 17, 2012 with loved ones and her cat, Lily, by her side.

Ellen was born in Brooklyn, NY, January 25, 1937, daughter of James P. and Helen (McNeill) McAllister. Her father was President of McAllister Brothers, Inc., the tugboat company headquartered in New York City.

Ellen grew up with dozens of beloved cousins and her favorite memories included many tugboat voyage celebrations. She spent her youth between Flatbush, NY and Belle Terre, L.I., NY. She attended Saint Saviour High School and graduated from Manhattanville College. Shortly after college she married Richard Perrott and spent 41 years in Shippan Point, Stamford, CT raising her four children.

Ellen’s early career highlights include being a teacher, travel agent, human resources supervisor, and regional operations manager. But her true calling and most passionate work came during her 15 years with Visiting Nurse and Hospice Care of Southwestern CT. During this time her volunteering efforts were endless and included patient involvement, community relations and bereavement care. Her most ambitious and successful contribution was fundraising for the Tree of Life as its Development Chair and Board Member.

Ellen was a long-time supporter of Manhattanville College and served on the Barat House Advisory Board, a life-giving center on intellectual and cultural exchange, for over 13 years. After becoming a resident of Ridgefield, she served on the Board of Quail Ridge II Condominium Association.

Ellen was also an active member of Christ Church Parish in Redding, CT, and served on their Vestry.

Ellen’s greatest gift was her ability to touch so many lives. She never missed an opportunity to develop lifelong relationships, help family and friends and share her love of life. She enjoyed travel, art history, reading, the NYT crossword puzzle, dancing, Silver Sneakers at the Wilton YMCA and especially spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Ellen is survived by her children, Richard Perrott and his wife Kathleen of Redding, CT, Gigi Brady and her husband Bob of Stamford, CT, Ward Perrott and his wife Mimi of Ridgefield, CT and Stephanie Firstbrook and her husband Brian of Ridgefield, CT and her seven adored grandchildren.

A memorial service and celebration of Ellen’s life will take place on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at 11 a.m at Christ Church Parish,184 Cross Highway, Redding, CT. Contributions in Ellen’s memory and honor may be made to the future Fairfield County Hospice House, P.O Box 4606, Stamford, CT 06907. As a devoted hospice believer and volunteer , Ellen was a champion of this endeavor. Your donation will enable Ellen’s memory and legacy to live on through Fairfield County Hospice House.
