Constance Bishop McCarthy, 95, longtime restaurateur

Constance Bishop McCarthy, age 95, formerly of Ridgefield, CT, died on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 at the Greens in Wilton.

Born in Wrentham, MA, the daughter of the late John and Bessie (Sanborn) Bishop, she was the wife of the late Edward A. McCarthy. Constance resided in Palm Beach and Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Cape Cod before moving to Connecticut.

A graduate of Edgewood Park Junior College, she opened her first business, the Edgewood Tea Room in Deep River, CT.

Passionate about cooking, Constance graduated from Miss (Fannie) Farmer’s School of Cookery in Boston, and became a restaurateur, having established and operated Bishop’s Terrace restaurant in W. Harwich, MA for 42 years until her retirement in 1984.

An active and outgoing woman, she especially enjoyed friendships at the Winchester Creek Country Club, Waynesville, NC, where she enjoyed playing bridge, providing guidance to the kitchen committee and starting a water aerobics program.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Pamela Wooster and her husband Robert of Ridgefield, CT, grandson John Wooster and his wife Sharni of Melbourne, Australia, as well as Edward’s children; Agnes Harrienger, Brenda Teleen, Edward A. Jr and Robert McCarthy and their families.

Funeral services will be held at Wrentham Center Cemetery, Wrentham, MA
