To the Editor:

Like many others, when I would see Mike Nardone walking around town, we would exchange a friendly wave.

But it wasn’t until six or seven years ago that I first spoke with him. I was on my way to work, and spotted him ahead of me on Olmstead, very close to where the photo in yesterday’s edition was taken.

It was springtime, and it was absolutely pouring! Yet there he was.

As I pulled alongside him in my van, I rolled down the window and barked out at him, “Hey, didn’t your mother teach you to come in out of the rain?” He smiled, stepped over and leaned against the side of the car and replied, “I’m sure she did, but I guess I’m a slow learner.”

Rest in peace, Mike.
