To the Editor:

On Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 9 a.m., I’m standing on Main Street, in front of Lucy’s, near the well-marked crosswalk.  A mother is walking from the direction of Planet Pizza, carrying a toddler and holding the hand of a preschooler.

To my surprise, she decides to jaywalk busy Main Street —when she is only a few yards from the crosswalk. She has to pause in the middle of the street, waiting until a driver in oncoming traffic is willing to stop. She tightly holds onto her boys while standing in the midst of moving cars, then dashes to the curb!

Such foolhardy behavior not only endangers the thoughtless pedestrian but others as well.  Main Street has designated crosswalks that are respected by most drivers. If you are a pedestrian, please protect yourself, your children, and drivers by using those crosswalks.
