Letter: Playhouse expansion positive for town’s future
To the Editor:
I will be voting “Yes” to move the Board of Education to the south building in the Venus (Chefs’ Warehouse) complex. Not only will it be a better space for the Board of Ed (making it easier for residents to find, people to park, and the Board of Ed ADA compliant), but it will also allow for the Ridgefield Playhouse to expand and upgrade its facility.
The Playhouse has not done any renovations to its space since it opened its doors in December of 2000. This much-needed expansion will not only allow the Playhouse to continue to bring quality entertainment to the community, but will allow the facility to grow its current outreach programs and continue to support the community in many ways.
As a 501(c)(3), the Ridgefield Playhouse offers all aspects of the performing arts as well as scholarships for classes, outreach tickets for Title 1 Schools and tickets to other nonprofits and people from low income areas. With the expansion of the lobby, backstage area, creation of a private VIP room and much needed stage upgrades, the Playhouse can continue to do good work for the community as well as offer high quality entertainment to more than 100,000 patrons annually. Many of these patrons have never been to Ridgefield, and some patrons have actually moved here after experiencing the warmth and beauty of our town and all that it has to offer. A vote of “Yes” for moving the Board of Ed is also a vote for the Playhouse and for the future of our town.
Without the Playhouse, Ridgefield would be a very different place.
