To the Editor:

The new congressional tax plan will attempt to eliminate the deductions that the middle class was built upon. State income taxes and local property taxes pay for our schools, roads, public works, police and fire departments.

If these taxes are not deductible from our federal income tax, then we will be taxed twice on the same income.

Clearly that is un-constitutional! It is also morally wrong.

Ridgefield needs to engage the federal government on this legal issue.

States have protected rights under the Constitution and there is legal precedent for preserving the deduction of state and local taxes.

Town elected leaders, please protect the taxpayers of Ridgefield — no taxing twice!
