To the Editor:

Our state representative is a decent man. But is our town getting the best deal from Hartford?

We give the state annually, in taxes, $110 million, and get back $3 million — a 2.7% return.

We are the 10th wealthiest town in the state. If we look at the three towns below and above us in wealth, namely Roxbury, Washington, and Salisbury, ranking No. 7, No. 8 and No. 9, and Sharon, Warren, and Bridgewater, ranking No. 11, No. 12, and No. 13, we find they are getting over double the rate of money back (6%) then we are.

Based on this rate, we are getting back $3 million less than they are. Since our good state representative has been in office for 18 years, one could assume we are out $54 million over his term in office.

As fine a man as he is, one must ask if he is worth this estimated tax loss from Hartford.
