Letter: Getting our fiscal house in order
To the Editor:
We need to get Connecticut’s fiscal house in order, and tolls are an important part of the path forward. It’s the one revenue-raising measure that will take 35% to 40% of the dollars raised from out-of-staters.
And what could be fairer?
Connecticut residents pay tolls when we drive on the major roads of all the nearby states, so shouldn’t out-of-state motorists and truckers contribute to our road upkeep? It’s sad that our state representative, John Frey, is not just joining but leading a narrative against this constructive approach.
That narrative relies on wishful thinking that we can kick the fixing of our financial problems down the road so that the party that’s not in office now can wash its hands of the most sensible fix.
