Letter: A response to John Frey
To the Editor:
In a recent letter to the editor, John Frey states, “No one wants to see families separated from their loved ones.” And yet as everyone, including Mr. Frey, knows this administration has worked very hard to separate children from their parents and has been very successful at it.
Mr. Frey further states, “Democrats, it seems, are not interested in compromise and coming up with a reasonable alternative that will protect our borders…”
Mr. Frey’s sweeping rhetoric is equivalent to the ever popular ‘Democrats want to take all the guns away’ propaganda. Neither statement is true, of course, but apparently that doesn’t matter anymore.
Mr. Frey then states, “Unless we talk to one another and not at them, unless we restore civility on both sides and stop harassing public officials and their families in restaurants, social media and otherwise, we are not going to solve our problems.”
I am not condoning harassing public officials. Bad behavior is bad behavior but I find it disappointing that Mr. Frey chooses to only highlight certain bad behavior by a few on the left. I have yet to see Mr. Frey specifically call out any bad behavior in his own party. I’ve yet to see him censure the president for physically mocking a handicapped reporter, for disparaging a decorated war veteran or for stopping in the middle of a ceremony honoring Native Americans to take a jab at a U.S. senator. And Mr. Frey has been completely silent on vitriol the president uses in repeating lies about the majority of immigrants coming into this country.
State Rep. Frey is a decent man and has served our community a long time but he has lost my respect as a representative and it’s time for a change.
